Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner finalise divorce after actor says he ‘fighting for his family’
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have reportedly finalised their divorce.
The former couple, who share three children, are said to have had a final meeting for several hours at Jennifer’s house on Thursday, with their lawyers and a private judge present.
According to People, court documents reveal the pair finally completed the legal proceedings to end their 10-year marriage, more than three years after announcing their separation.
However, TMZ reports that it’s not entirely over for Jennifer, 46, and Ben, 46, who will allegedly still need to get the documents officially signed off by the courts, which could take until the end of the year.
It is expected that the couple will continue to co-parent their children, daughters Violet, 12, Seraphina, nine, and son Samuel, six.
After striking up a romance in 2004, Ben and Jen wed the following year but announced their separation in June 2015.
Earlier in the week, Ben addressed his recent stint at a rehab facility and shared his addiction struggles in a letter to fans.
In the Instagram post, the Batman v Superman actor said: ‘This week I completed a forty day stay at a treatment center for alcohol addiction and remain in outpatient care. The support I have received from my family, colleagues and fans means more to me than I can say.
‘It’s given me the strength and support to speak about my illness with others. Battling any addiction is a lifelong and difficult struggle. Because of that, one is never really in or out of treatment. It is a full-time commitment. I am fighting for myself and my family.’
It is understood that Jennifer had been a pillar of support for her ex-husband throughout his battle to maintain sobriety. In August, the Alias actress was seen driving Ben to a rehab clinic in Malibu.
In his letter, Ben continued: ‘So many people have reached out on social media and spoken about their own journeys with addiction. To those people, I want to say thank you. Your strength is inspiring and is supporting me in ways I didn’t think was possible. It helps to know I
am not alone. As I’ve had to remind myself, if you have a problem, getting help is a sign of courage, not weakness or failure.
‘With acceptance and humility, I continue to avail myself with the help of so many people and I am grateful to all those who are there for me. I hope down the road I can offer an example to others who are struggling.’
While Jennifer is thought to be single, Ben has been linked to a number of women, including Lindsay Shookus and most recently Playboy model Shauna Sexton.
