— I am a divorced mom and I regretted my divorce. Even though some time has passed, I still think about my marriage, my children and my husband and all the moments we had together. After some time spent separated from my husband, I came to the conclusion that divorce was rather the easy way out. Let’s see how had it all started. I met my ex-husband while volunteering at an NGO organization in my college years. We had about three years of friendship before realizing that we were made for each other. Or at least this is what we thought at [...]

Hey, has this ever happened to you? It may have been months since your divorce ended, and you thought you were doing okay. You were picking yourself up financially, making your home your own, and trying some new activities and were feeling pretty good about yourself. But then it hits you and won’t leave.  That anger–that pure rage once you look back and realize just how awful your ex treated you. The time you found the messages from another person on their cell phone. Or when you wanted to see your kids, but she kept them from you. The list [...]

A divorced woman cannot have a purchased frozen embryo implanted over the objections of her ex-husband, Ontario's top court ruled on Friday in a ground-breaking case.  In overturning a lower court decision, the Court of Appeal ruled that both former spouses retained rights to the embryo to which neither are genetically related. "Neither contract nor property law principles govern in this case," the court ruled. "Parliament has imposed a consent-based, rather than a contract-based, model through legislation and regulation." The case arose in 2011 when the couple identified only as D.H. and S.H. purchased four embryos created from anonymous sperm [...]

Adrian Weinbrecht | Getty Images It's no surprise that your likelihood of divorce is somewhat based on your relationship with money. Money is the leading cause of stress in a relationship, according to data from Northwestern Mutual's 2018 Planning & Progress Study. The survey of over 2,000 adults found that 41% of people said financial anxiety impacts their relationship with a spouse or partner. And the more money you have, the more problems you face (or so said the late rapper Notorious B.I.G.). Economic growth rose more than expected in the first quarter of the year, thanks to continuing strength [...]

The lawyer as a counselor – grbj.com

Most law firms advertise that they boast a roster of attorneys and counselors at law. The second role played by most attorneys, that of counselor, may be the most underappreciated and underutilized value a lawyer can bring to any given client matter. All clients expect their attorney knows the law and can provide advice regarding the liabilities that need to be considered prior to taking a certain course of action. However, true value is added when an attorney provides counsel regarding whether a particular course of action is advisable. Two of the most popular topics about which attorneys receive questions [...]

Contributor: David Scott | Published: 31 May 2019 David Scott 1 June 2019 It has been over 43 years since the first equal pay legislation came into force, yet there continues to be a failure to pay men and woman equally for the work that they do. Contributor David Scott, Senior Associate Solicitor – Hethertons Solicitors. Divorce happens. A lot. Yet it's still hard to share the "news." Divorce is hard. Even a fairly amicable one. One of the first (outwardly) difficult parts includes breaking the news to those you friends and/or family members you know and love. After you’ve told your kids (if you have them), who do you tell about the end of your marriage next? At what point during the divorce process should you tell people? And how exactly do you tell people about a life change you may not be ready to discuss in detail? RELATED: 3 Reasons Getting Divorced Could Be The Best Decision You'll Ever [...]
