Disney's $177M litigation disclosure likely relates to BPI suit
The confidential settlement reached on June 28 between Beef Products Inc., and Disney-owned ABC News is not entirely a secret anymore. The report filed Tuesday by Walt Disney Co. does not specifically mention that the settlement is related to the BPI case, but it was the only settlement Disney disclosed in its quarterly earnings report for the three-month period ended June 30, two days after the BPI settlement was reached. The figure is not directly linked to the “pink slime” case, but the BPI litigation is the only one Disney specifies in the report. ABC News and reporter Jim Avila. […]

Latest figures from the Ministry of Justice have revealed that the average time it takes for a divorce to become final in the Midlands is 21.7 weeks, compared to an average of 23.2 weeks across England and Wales. Staying Married For the Kids?
Staying married for the kids? Alison Maloni decided not to do that and wrote about it. Here is her guest post, which offers her perspective on why it doesn’t make sense to stay in an unhappy married for the children. A Message to Parents Who Stay Married for the Children by Alison Maloni I recently wrote an article about my divorce. I was panicking about the response that I would receive, as I know that some people were in shock and others disappointed in my recent life-changing event. What really overwhelmed me was the feedback that I received. […]
Dish Network profit plunges 90 percent on litigation expenses

Son of Britain’s most married peer embroiled in divorce fight of his own – Evening Standard

The Honourable Henry Wyndham Wodehouse, 61, is the son of Lord Wodehouse, fourth earl of Kimberley, who garnered a reputation as a playboy with six marriages during his lifetime. SocGen’s Litigation Cloud Lingers Over International Growth – Bloomberg
Societe Generale SA’s continued struggle with litigation for past misconduct is overshadowing a jump in demand for structured products and a brighter picture for consumer banking in eastern Europe. France’s third-largest bank said Wednesday that it increased legal provisions by 300 million euros ($354 million) for disputes that it didn’t specify. Societe Generale’s 963 million-euro settlement in May with the Libyan Investment Authority, already covered by the bank’s cash pile for legal provisions, led to accounting effects on revenue, taxes and provisions in the second quarter, but had a neutral effect on the bottom line and capital position. The most […]

Judge spearheading late-night courts confronts the critics
The senior judge in charge of modernising the courts service has hit out at ‘ill-informed comments’ from lawyers and ‘misunderstandings’ about controversial plans to test out-of-hours courts. In a letter despatched over the weekend, Lord Justice Fulford sets out to ‘demystify’ the flexible hours courts pilot, insisting the plans are ’not a disguised attempt to persuade, or force… legal professionals and others to spend more time at court than they do at present’. The letter was sent to all judges via the judicial intranet and the Law Society and Bar Council, a spokesman for HM Judiciary said. Court sessions will […]
