Visa, Mastercard Swipe Fee Deal Fails to Stem More Litigation

Visa Inc. and Mastercard Inc.’s $30 billion swipe fee settlement with merchants provides only temporary relief for US businesses and won’t stop additional litigation against the payment networks, critics say. The companies this week announced an agreement to cap credit-card swipe fees and allow merchants to steer consumers to cheaper payment options in order to end multidistrict litigation dating back to 2005. Merchants are expected to save $30 billion in swipe fees, also known as interchange fees, over five years. But others aren’t convinced the settlement does enough. Target Corp., Starbucks Corp., Foot Locker Inc. and Crate & Barrel are […]

The government has announced a crackdown on the misuse of non-disclosure agreements.  Legislation will be introduced ‘as soon as parliamentary time allows’ to ensure victims are no longer prevented from accessing legal advice and other support, lord chancellor Alex Chalk MP said yesterday. The law will clarify that NDAs cannot be legally enforced if they prevent victims from reporting a crime. It will be stipulated that information related to alleged criminal conduct can be disclosed, without fear of legal action, to the police, regulated lawyers and other support services such as doctors. Other parts of NDAs, including provisions relating to […]

The blended family. It sounds so perfect. After all, the Brady Bunch seemed pretty happy, didn’t they? What the iconic seventies sitcom never showed us was that Mrs. Brady almost assuredly got on the boys’ nerves, at times, and the girls probably wished they could spend some time alone with just their mom—without the rest of the clan. And, we would be willing to bet there were times when one of the girls said to their mother, “He can’t tell me what to do, he’s not even my real dad!” Get the picture? The blended family advantages and disadvantages are […]

For a company that funds commercial litigation in exchange for a percentage of the payout, the room names are a cheeky reference to centuries-old common law doctrines that made it illegal to interfere in someone else’s lawsuit – and do so for a profit. Maintenance and champerty were criminal offences […]

These technologies include CE-filing, online hearings, robo-courts, and digital trial bundles, to name but a few. Now we are […]

A New Chapter Begins: Embracing Your Post-Divorce Life

Diving into the world of divorce is like stepping onto a rollercoaster you never intended to ride—no one gets married thinking it will end in divorce. It’s complex, filled with unexpected turns, and, sometimes, it can get really scary. The reasons people find themselves on this ride are as varied as the individuals themselves. Some reach the decision after countless nights of soul-searching, realizing the only path to happiness is apart. Others are thrown into the chaos, blindsided by a partner’s decision to leave. And then there are those who, hand in hand, decide that their journeys, while no longer […]
