The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has announced a further \u00a31.5million emergency response fund to provide victims of domestic abuse with safe accommodation and support if they need to flee their homes during the coronavirus pandemic. <\/p>\n

The Mayor’s newly established \u00a31.5m emergency response fund will provide urgent crisis support to survivors of domestic abuse and violence against women and girls, and includes support for male and LGBTQ+ victims. This is additional to\u00a0\u00a359 million the Mayor has invested in tackling violence against women and girls. The new fund has helped secure new, urgently needed, safe accommodation across the city for victims of domestic abuse who are in danger and need to leave their homes – for example, those experiencing violence or controlling behaviour, forced marriage or being physically threatened by their child.<\/p>\n

On 2 May 2020 the Communities Secretary announced<\/strong><\/a><\/strong> a change to rules which will mean that those fleeing domestic abuse and as a result facing homelessness will be automatically considered as priority by their council for housing. It was also announced that there would be \u00a376 million extra funding to support survivors of?domestic abuse, sexual violence and vulnerable children and their families and victims of modern slavery. The funding will include \u00a310 million for domestic abuse accommodation services. On 7 May 2020 the Communities Secretary gave details<\/strong> <\/a><\/strong>of how domestic abuse charities can access the \u00a310 million fund.\u00a0 <\/p>\n
