{"id":182841,"date":"2022-06-23T15:47:47","date_gmt":"2022-06-23T15:47:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dominiclevent.com\/blog\/?p=182841"},"modified":"2022-06-23T15:47:47","modified_gmt":"2022-06-23T15:47:47","slug":"jerry-hall-in-line-for-10m-a-year-under-generous-rupert-murdoch-divorce-settlement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominiclevent.com\/blog\/jerry-hall-in-line-for-10m-a-year-under-generous-rupert-murdoch-divorce-settlement\/","title":{"rendered":"Jerry Hall in line for \u00a310m a year under &#8216;generous&#8217; Rupert Murdoch divorce settlement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Jerry Hall could receive up to \u00a310m a year and share in \u00a3250m worth of properties as part of a \u201cgenerous\u201d divorce settlement from <a href=\"https:\/\/inews.co.uk\/news\/media\/rupert-murdochs-talktv-wont-work-if-its-just-the-piers-morgan-show-tv-analysts-warn-1585245?ico=in-line_link\">Rupert Murdoch.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The six-year marriage between the <a href=\"https:\/\/inews.co.uk\/topic\/rupert-murdoch?ico=in-line_link\">billionaire media mogul<\/a>, 91 and the 65 year-old supermodel is over, two people with knowledge of the decision told the New York Times.<\/p>\n<p>Rumours that the couple were no longer together spread after Ms Hall failed to accompany her husband at Mr Murdoch\u2019s Summer party on Monday night at the Serpentine Gallery, attended by luminaries including the Prime Minister.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<figure><amp-twitter width=\"auto\" height=\"197\" layout=\"fixed-height\" data-tweetid=\"1539702597275230212\" class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><button overflow=\"\" type=\"button\">See more<\/button><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" placeholder=\"\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Rupert Murdoch and Jerry Hall divorcing after six-year marriage.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Andrew Neil (@afneil) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/afneil\/status\/1539702597275230212?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 22, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/amp-twitter><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Representatives for the couple declined to comment on the reports.<\/p>\n<p>It is set to be a fourth divorce and the shortest marriage yet for Mr Murdoch, whose wealth is estimated by Forbes at \u00a314bn.<\/p>\n<p>However the split is not expected to affect the succession plan for the Murdoch media empire, which includes News UK \u2013 publishers of The Times, The Sunday Times and The Sun \u2013 as well as the Wall Street Journal, the New York Post, book publisher HarperCollins and Fox News in America.<\/p>\n<p>Eldest son Lachlan Murdoch is the heir apparent after returning to the family business as co-chairman of News Corp.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Murdoch\u2019s six children are beneficiaries of the family trust, boosted by $12bn in Disney shares acquired under the 2019 deal which sold the Fox studios and other assets to the entertainment giant.<\/p>\n<p>The divorce could signal that Mr Murdoch wishes to take a closer interest in his business operations. <\/p>\n<p>When the unlikely couple first met in Australia in 2015, friends described Mr Murdoch as \u201csome dotty old man who\u2019s in love with a teenager.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following their 2016 wedding at St Bride\u2019s church in London\u2019s Fleet Street, attended by guests including Bob Geldof, Tracey Emin and Michael Caine, Mr Murdoch appeared content with the \u201cbalance\u201d Ms Hall brought into his life, allowing trusted son Lachlan time to establish himself as the future News Corp boss.<\/p>\n<p>However Mr Murdoch has become personally invested in fresh challenges, such as building an audience for the talkTV channel which has struggled to attract viewers after launching with high ambitions. <\/p>\n<p>Executives at Fox News and the Wall Street Journal may find the boss scrutinising their editorial content with renewed vigour.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Murdoch and Ms Hall are believed to have signed a pre-nup agreement. <\/p>\n<p>Mark Stephens, the leading media lawyer, told<em><strong> <\/strong><\/em><strong><mark class=\"has-inline-color has-inews-red-color amp-wp-cefb454\" style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\">i<\/mark><\/strong>: \u201cJerry will be looked after handsomely under the agreement. It isn\u2019t designed to make her wealthy but allow her to live an independent life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe will get a generous stipend to live \u2013 from \u00a35m to \u00a310m a year for the rest of her life. That covers staff and security needs.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cJerry will get a couple of homes, perhaps Chipping Norton and an apartment in New York, as well as use of the PJs \u2013 private jets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Hall will have a \u201cshared use\u201d claim on properties the couple have acquired since marrying. They include an \u00a311.25 million Georgian property near Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>A year later, Great Tew Manor \u2013 a \u201cdoer-upper\u201d in the Cotswolds joined the property portfolio. It was earmarked for a \u00a330m restoration project.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Hall may be attracted to the 340,000-acre cattle ranch near Yellowstone Park in the US, bought last December for \u00a3228 million.<\/p>\n<p>The pre-nup was designed to give Ms Hall security should she outlive her husband. A clause required either party to move out if they remarried.<\/p>\n<p>Friends said they were surprised at the speed with which the Murdoch marriage has apprently unravelled. <\/p>\n<p>There had been minor reported tensions over Ms Hall\u2019s insistence on smoking. <\/p>\n<p>A plan to revive Ms Hall\u2019s role as Mrs Robinson in a stage production of The Graduate, which includes a nude scene, was said to have been dropped at her husband\u2019s behest.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of nuptials, Mr Murdoch has surpassed his thrice-married screen counterpart <a href=\"https:\/\/inews.co.uk\/culture\/television\/succession-season-3-finale-review-recap-kendall-jeremy-strong-now-tv-sky-atlantic-uk-1349831?ico=in-line_link\">Logan Roy<\/a>, the central character in Succession.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Murdoch was introduced to Ms Hall following the end of his 14-year marriage to Chinese-born businesswoman Wendi Deng. <\/p>\n<p>They divorced in 2014 and have two children, Grace and Chloe. Mr Murdoch was embarrassed by reports that Ms Deng enjoyed a close friendship with Tony Blair.<\/p>\n<p>Lachlan, James, who quit the family business in protest over Fox News\u2019s right-wing content and TV entrepreneur Elisabeth, are scions of their father\u2019s 32-year marriage to Anna Torv.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Murdoch has a daughter, Prudence, from his first marriage to Patricia Booker, a flight attendant from Melbourne. They wed in 1956 in Australia and divorced 11-years later.<\/p>\n<p>Six years before meeting Mr Murdoch, Ms Hall said she was not interested in dating younger men.<\/p>\n<p>The model liked to quote her mother\u2019s advice on keeping a man: \u201cYou must be a maid in the living room, a cook in the kitchen and a\u00a0whore\u00a0in the\u00a0bedroom.
