LA’s former mayor has finalized an eye-catchingly petty divorce from his ex wife that bans her from using his surname – and grants him their old joint Netflix<\/a> account.<\/p>\n

Antonio Villaraigosa, 72, and his second wife,\u00a0Patricia, 52,\u00a0finalized their split in L.A. County Superior Court last week.<\/p>\n

Court documents viewed by DailyMail.com show the former mayor will walk away from the seven-year marriage with their $3.5 million Beverly Hills home, his pension and a 2024 Volvo XC60.<\/p>\n

But it was the non-material items which were most eye-catching. It remains unclear why the Netflix account proved to be a bone of contention, with a subscription to the streamer costing between $7.99 and $24.99-a-month.<\/p>\n

Patricia must now go by her maiden name, Govea, with Villaraigosa’s lawyers hinting they feared she’d use her ex’s surname to start a business.<\/p>\n

‘[Govea] shall take all necessary steps to effectuate this provision including but not limited to changing her name with the Department of Motor Vehicles, Social Security Office and Immigration related offices,’ the document said.<\/p>\n

‘As of December 6, 2024, Respondent shall not use the name Villaraigosa for any social, marketing or business purpose.’<\/p>\n

The surname in question was only created in 1997 when the then Antonio Vilar married first wife Corina Raigosa, with the pair so in love that they combined their last names.<\/p>\n

But it wasn’t all bad news for glamorous Govea.<\/p>\n

She was handed a $550,000 sum by her ex as well as $100,000 for ‘professional fees and costs.’<\/p>\n

Govea also gets two properties in Mexico<\/a>, a 2016 Range Rover Evoque, her eponymous fashion business, as well as all of her furniture, art, clothing and jewels.<\/p>\n

In addition to the one-time payment and professional fees, he agreed to pay her $200,000 for a real estate payment she made.<\/p>\n

Villaraigosa is no stranger to headlines thanks to his colorful personal life.<\/p>\n

After nearly 20 years together, the former mayors first marriage to Corina – that yielded his surname – ended in 2010.<\/p>\n

Corina had first filed for divorce in 1994 when her lawmaker lover was accused of cheating on her.<\/p>\n

They reconciled two years later, but split again in 2007 when he had an affair with a news reporter.<\/p>\n

Villaraigosa married his second wife Patricia in 2016.<\/p>\n

He initially filed for divorce in 2022, but the cased was dismissed.<\/p>\n

Villaraigosa filed again in January 2024 and they finally settled in February.<\/p>\n

The lawmaker served as mayor of Los Angeles from 2005 to 2013 and became a prominent Democrat in California during the Great Recession.<\/p>\n

The divorce agreement comes after Villaraigosa announced his candidacy for the 2026 California governor race last summer, reported the Los Angeles Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Villaraigosa served as mayor of Los Angeles from 2005 to 2013 and ran for California governor in 2018. In July, he announced he plans to run for the office in 2026<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

It was his second bid for the office after he ran in 2018.<\/p>\n

He came in third in the governor\u2019s race behind Gavin Newsom and Republican John Cox.<\/p>\n

Newsom cannot hold the governor’s office for more than two terms and is being touted as a possible future presidential candidate for the Democrats.<\/p>\n

When he left the mayor’s mansion in 2013, he said he had ‘no job, no house, no car,’ according to the LA Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But his tax returns revealed he made more than $4 million as a consultant to various businesses, including multilevel marketing company Herbalife, Banc of California, water company Cadiz, global public relations firm Edelman and the AltaMed chain of health clinics.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
