Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realised that our best future was as a family together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThankfully we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/goss.ie\/showbiz\/rory-mcilroy-admits-life-can-get-too-much-as-he-opens-up-about-brief-split-from-wife-394655\">In September, Rory spoke to Patrick Kielty as part of Friday night\u2019s Late Late Show and admitted his personal life took its toll over the last yea<\/a>r.<\/p>\n<p>The golfer confessed: \u201cThere has been a lot going on this year, golf-wise and obviously personal-wise as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes life can get a lot, you know, it can get too much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The golfer admitted he needed to \u201ctake time away to realise what was important, friends, family and enjoying myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 35-year-old started dating Erica in 2014, months after he broke off his previous engagement to tennis star Caroline Wozniacki.<\/p>\n<p>The former couple\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/goss.ie\/showbiz\/rory-mcilroy-erica-stoll-now-husband-wife-102692\">married<\/a>\u00a0in a star-studded ceremony at Ashford Castle in 2017 and welcomed their daughter Poppy three years later.<\/p>\n<p>In May, The Irish Independent reported that Rory had filed for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/goss.ie\/showbiz\/rory-mcilroy-files-for-divorce-from-wife-erica-stoll-after-7-years-of-marriage-379799\">divorce<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>His manager Sean O\u2019Flaherty said in a statement: \u201cRory McIlroy\u2019s communications team confirmed today that a divorce has been filed. They stressed Rory\u2019s desire to ensure this difficult time is as respectful and amicable as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The divorce filing, which described their marriage as \u201cirretrievably broken\u201d, requests shared custody of their daughter Poppy and asks for a parenting plan to be established.<\/p>\n<p>Court officials responded by closing out the case meaning that if the pro golfer changes his mind again, he will have to start the divorce proceedings from scratch.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement to The Guardian, Rory addressed the speculation surrounding his relationship status.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere have been rumours about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate. Responding to each rumour is a fool\u2019s game,\u201d the golfer said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the past weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-11\">\n<p>However, a source close to the sportsman revealed the \u201creal\u201d reason behind their reconciliation was that Rory \u201ccan\u2019t be on his own for more than five minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The source also told the outlet that the golfer \u201cneeds the stability\u201d in his life.<\/p>\n<p>Another source told the outlet: \u201cRory is a bit of a law unto himself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have heard that they\u2019ve decided to give it six months and see how they both feel at the end of it. That would make sense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFiling for divorce was all about Rory rushing into things.
