During her time as a professional wedding planner, Robin Yarusso has seen it all \u2014\u00a0including signs that indicate a couple may or may not be in it for the long haul.<\/p>\n

In a TikTok video that received over 3.1 million views<\/a>, Yarusso shared that throughout her career, she has noticed several events that happen \u201ctime and time again\u201d during wedding planning<\/a> that signal a couple might be heading for divorce.<\/p>\n

In total, Yarusso has planned over 100 weddings and between 25 and 30 proposals. She tells TODAY.com that certain behaviors can indicate a larger \u201cproblematic system” is occurring based off of the couples she has previously worked with.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are certain things that happen that I’ve seen time and time again with my brides and grooms that have divorced later on,\u201d she says in the video.<\/p>\n

Cake Smashing<\/h2>\n

The first sign that a couple might not work out, Yarusso says, is when they smash cake in each other\u2019s faces during the reception.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor some reason, none of my brides and grooms that did that are still together,\u201d she said in the video.<\/p>\n

Yarusso tells TODAY.com that if the couple mutually agrees to smash cake in each other\u2019s faces, then she considers that a different story.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf they didn\u2019t agree on it, didn\u2019t discuss it, or if one said \u2018no\u2019 and it still happens, then it\u2019s disrespectful,\u201d Yarusso says. \u201cIf the bride looks upset, like \u2018Oh my gosh,\u2019 and you didn\u2019t want that to happen \u2014 I haven\u2019t had a single couple survive that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wedding Budget Disagreements<\/h2>\n

Yarusso says that she finds if one member of the couple is not respectful of the budget, then it might be a sign of larger financial strains on the relationship.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I have a bride that is calling me on the side like \u2018Lets add this to the flowers, don\u2019t tell Jim,\u201d Yarusso said in the video. \u201cThe \u2018don’t tells?\u2019 Those people end up getting a divorce.\u201d<\/p>\n

She says that the problem is not necessarily about how much a couple spends on a wedding, but whether or not both members are on the same page with their finances. A big wedding does not necessarily mean a couple is going to fail, but going into debt to pay for it might be.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe amount that you spend on the wedding does not matter,\u201d she says. \u201cThe amount of energy you put into understanding a marriage is what matters.\u201d<\/p>\n

Poor Boundaries with Family Members<\/h2>\n

If a family member \u2014 such as the parent of the bride or groom \u2014 oversteps their boundaries and their child doesn\u2019t do anything to correct their behavior, Yarusso says this can be an indicator of a larger problem.<\/p>\n

\u201cParents overstep all the time,\u201d she says. \u201cBut when their child won\u2019t correct them, that\u2019s when I can sense there\u2019s a boundary issue.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dramatic Behavior<\/h2>\n

Yarusso says that anything that causes drama at the wedding can indicate that there will be more problems down the road.<\/p>\n

She says that drama can be cultivated, for example, when a couple has a large wedding party, or when one member of the couple is overserved.<\/p>\n

\u201cA large wedding party usually has a ton of drama,\u201d Yarusso says. \u201cThe more drama there is, the worse. If one (member) of the couple ends up extremely intoxicated at the wedding, that\u2019s usually not a good sign \u2026 it\u2019s telling me that they aren\u2019t aligned in behaviors.\u201d<\/p>\n

An Uninterested Planning Partner<\/h2>\n

In the TikTok video, Yarusso notes that when the groom doesn\u2019t seem to care about wedding planning, it’s a sign of bigger issues for the to-be-weds.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf his one job was to pick the DJ, and we are a week out from the wedding and he hasn\u2019t gotten that done, that husband is completely checked out,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

While there are indicators that reveal whether or not a couple might not make it after the big day, Yarusso adds that, most of the time, at least one person getting married knows deep down that something is off.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the marriage isn\u2019t going to work, most people know that before they get married,\u201d Yarusso says. \u201cYou get a feeling. So, if you\u2019re seeing these, and it\u2019s a red flag indicator, and you\u2019re suppressing it down because you can\u2019t call off a wedding; it\u2019s much easier to call off a wedding than to go through a divorce.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
