The takeover, worth \u00a34.8bn, was confirmed in December.<\/p>\n<p>Patrick Sarch, head of UK public M&amp;A at White &amp; Case, said international bidders were attracted by the \u201crelative valuations and many undervalued businesses\u201d in the UK.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-uk-firms-outshone-by-us-tech\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">UK firms outshone by US tech<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/capabilities\/strategy-and-corporate-finance\/our-insights\/uk-capital-markets-looking-beyond-surface-narratives\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">A recent report from McKinsey<\/a> showed that the UK\u2019s average EV\/EBITDA multiple \u2013 a metric which compares a company\u2019s valuation with their earnings \u2013 stands at 7.7, comfortably behind the 13.8 recorded in the US.<\/p>\n<p>But the McKinsey report also noted that this was skewed by the predominance of the biggest tech firms in the US, which had massively outperformed the biggest UK companies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe relative underperformance of the largest UK companies, as well as the absence of significant outliers, has tended to have a detrimental effect on valuations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ons.gov.uk\/businessindustryandtrade\/changestobusiness\/mergersandacquisitions\/bulletins\/mergersandacquisitionsinvolvingukcompanies\/octobertodecember2025#outward-mergers-and-acquisitions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The figures<\/a> also showed that the value of transactions involving domestic businesses fell to \u00a31.8bn, from \u00a37.1bn in the previous quarter.
