I recently befriended a man who has an open marriage.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Although I couldn\u2019t imagine this particular scenario for myself, it made me curious about marriage as a whole.<\/p>\n

\"An\u2018I had a panic attack before the ceremony\u2019: 5 people admit why they regret getting married<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

As the saying goes, half of all marriages end in divorce. Technically, it\u2019s more like 42%<\/a>, but I guess we\u2019re a glass half empty kind of folk.<\/p>\n

To make matters worse, according to the international law firm\u00a0Withers<\/a>,\u00a0there are\u00a0currently 2.2 million married people in the UK, who are seriously considering a divorce.<\/p>\n

But, what is it exactly that is driving people to say \u2018I don\u2019t\u2019 and walking out the door, shortly after walking down the aisle?<\/p>\n

These eight\u00a0people reveal why they\u2019re considering a divorce.<\/p>\n

Fair warning,\u00a0if you\u2019re loved up and about to get married, stop reading and walk away, now.<\/p>\n

Ellie, 32, London, works in fashion<\/strong><\/h2>\n

We\u2019ve both had difficulties adjusting to the birth of our first and only child.<\/p>\n

Our baby is 11 months now and since the birth, our relationship hasn\u2019t been the same.<\/p>\n

Neither of us is getting much sleep and I\u2019ve been stressed about going back to work after maternity leave. My husband is also very distant, often staying late at work and making plans wherever possible, so that he doesn\u2019t have to come home.<\/p>\n

And, when he does show his face, he avoids interacting with me or the baby.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve even starting sleeping in different rooms, so I can\u2019t see our situation improving anytime soon.<\/p>\n

I want the best for our family, for us to become a solid family unit, but it\u2019s going to take work and I\u2019m not sure either of us has the energy. At least not right now.<\/p>\n

But, I\u2019m not sure how much longer I can pretend that everything is OK.<\/p>\n

Bernard, 39, Newcastle, works in hospitality<\/strong><\/h2>\n

My wife had an affair.<\/p>\n

We have\u00a0been married for eight wonderful years and never had any issues until this year. Or at least, I didn\u2019t think we did.<\/p>\n

A few weeks ago,\u00a0I found out that she was having an affair with one of her old work colleagues.\u00a0She said it didn\u2019t mean anything, apologised and told me she wanted to get back to being \u2018us\u2019.<\/p>\n

In my opinion, we\u2019d never stopped being \u2018us\u2019.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m very confused, and I\u00a0don\u2019t know if I can forgive her. The situation is very raw at the moment.<\/p>\n

Knowing that she lied is almost as much of an issue as the infidelity itself; we\u2019ve always been very honest with each other.<\/p>\n

Angela, 52, Sheffield, retired<\/strong><\/h2>\n

My husband totally neglects me, and just does his own thing.<\/p>\n

I have just booked a holiday on my own, as he doesn\u2019t even want to come with me.<\/p>\n

I feel extremely lonely, especially as our children are no longer living at home and I don\u2019t have that many close friends in the area.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s almost as if I\u2019m sharing my house with a stranger. I\u2019ve considered discussing my feelings with him, but we never seem to talk anymore.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s never been particularly good at listening.<\/p>\n

Maggie, 43, Leicester, stay-at-home mum<\/strong><\/h2>\n

We have complete contempt for one another and we\u2019re constantly arguing.<\/p>\n

I haven\u2019t shared a bedroom with my husband, let alone a bed, for the last year.<\/p>\n

He lies about meaningless things and often acts as if he thinks I\u2019m stupid. We also have two children, currently in their teens, and this atmosphere isn\u2019t good for them.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve threatened him with divorce in arguments, but I\u2019m not sure I\u2019d go through with it.<\/p>\n

As a stay-at-home mum, I\u2019ve become somewhat reliant on him financially\u00a0\u2013 \u00a0he\u2019s the sole bread winner. I do have some savings, but a divorce would be a big thing to follow through with.<\/p>\n

Alex, 34, Nottingham, works in the legal industry<\/strong><\/h2>\n

We used to have such a great sex life.<\/p>\n

But now, if I don\u2019t initiate sex, it simply doesn\u2019t happen\u00a0\u2013 there is no intimacy or affection left in our marriage.<\/p>\n

My wife and I met at university, and couldn\u2019t keep our hands off each other for the first few years. When we got married, five years ago, the physical side of things started to slow down.<\/p>\n

We relocated to Nottingham shortly after our wedding, to be near her parents. The pressure of starting new jobs in a new area, probably didn\u2019t help the situation either.<\/p>\n

I do sometimes think we\u2019d be happier if we weren\u2019t together.<\/p>\n

\nPetra<\/strong>, 24, Bristol, works in marketing<\/strong>

My husband is an emotionally abusive alcoholic.<\/p>\n

After four years of being together, I feel like I\u2019m about to snap and tell him that I want a divorce.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m worried about how he will react, because he\u2019s always been the jealous type and regularly accuses me of acting inappropriately with other men.<\/p>\n

His family doesn\u2019t help, either. They are completely against me, and back him up every time we have an argument.<\/p>\n

They fall for his sob stories every time and I\u2019m sick of it.<\/p>\n
