As Kenny Martin hid in the dark shadows of his garage, he could hear his wife Linda talking to a man. He had a gut feeling and his worst fears were realised when he stepped out for a better look. <\/p>\n

Kenny saw Linda passionately kissing her toyboy lover, Jason Hitt. Unable to control himself, Kenny confronted the couple and a fight broke out. Kenny had known his marriage to Linda was in trouble because she\u2019d already filed for divorce, but he\u2019d hoped it could be saved. Even confronted with the fact that Linda was seeing someone else, Kenny wasn\u2019t giving up. Linda was the woman he adored. Could he fix it?<\/p>\n

Kenny first met Linda in the 90s when she was a single mum to two kids, a girl and a boy. Linda was a strong, independent woman, but she fell for the softly spoken Texan cowboy who often wore a white Stetson hat. Kenny and Linda married and settled in Flower Mound, Texas. <\/p>\n

Together they built a successful heating and air-conditioning repair business, giving them a comfortable life. They owned property and had land with a herd of cattle. In their eyes, their future was so certain, they even bought a double burial plot so they could be laid
to rest together. <\/p>\n

Linda was passionate about the things she believed in. If there were problems in the community, she\u2019d campaign to fix them. When Linda discovered there were peacocks living in the neighbourhood, she lobbied city leaders to protect them. It resulted in her being known as \u2018the peacock lady\u2019. When Linda put her mind to something, she was a formidable force. Kenny was the quiet one. <\/p>\n

It seemed like opposites had attracted, but by September 2015, after 20 years of marriage, Linda, 55, filed for divorce. They continued to live in the same house as they worked through the details, but things became tense. They started to argue about how they were going to divide up their assets and when Kenny would move out. <\/p>\n

Then in the November, Kenny caught his wife kissing Jason, 42. The fight spilled out onto the front garden. <\/p>\n

\u2018That\u2019s my wife!\u2019 Kenny yelled, for all the neighbours to hear. <\/p>\n

Jason overpowered Kenny and the police were called. Jason wasn\u2019t charged \u2013 he\u2019d won the brawl, and Linda. Kenny realised all hope was lost, and he tried to move on by starting to date again. But neither Linda nor Kenny could get on with their futures until they\u2019d agreed on how they were going to divvy up their estate.<\/p>\n

Demanding<\/h3>\n

On 31 May 2016, the couple attended a legal mediation session to try to find some common ground, but there were more shocks for Kenny. Linda told him she wanted the burial plots they\u2019d bought together and the house they\u2019d spent years doing up. She also wanted 80 acres of land where he tended to his herd of cattle. Kenny had been willing to compromise, but that was too much for him to agree to.<\/p>\n

The pair left the session and Linda got into her jeep and drove away. As she stopped at a red light at an intersection, she was on the phone to Jason. Waiting for the lights to change, Linda told him that she felt good, standing up for what she wanted. <\/p>\n

Suddenly Kenny appeared at the driver window, pointed a Colt 45 calibre revolver at Linda and fired into her face. Jason could hear thumps down the phone and thought Linda had crashed. <\/p>\n

In fact, Kenny had fired one bullet into his estranged wife, and discharged the final five bullets into the ground, terrifying the public. Kenny called 911 and then his step-daughter. <\/p>\n

\u2018I shot her,\u2019 he said. \u2018I couldn\u2019t take it any more.\u2019 <\/p>\n
