Making a speech at your best friend\u2019s wedding can be a daunting prospect, and the pressure to be equal parts funny, entraining and inspiring, while also including a few key tear-jerking moments, is high.<\/span><\/p>\n

But one Best Man has taken the tear-jerking brief a little too far, prompting the bride to break down mid-way through his wedding speech… and <\/span>not<\/span><\/em> for all the right reasons.<\/span><\/p>\n

In an anonymous <\/span>post on Reddit<\/span><\/a>, the man detailed his wiley plan to make an entertaining Best Man speech for his friend of several decades. After the ceremony, the man decided to take bets from friends and family attending the service on when they believed the couple would divorce.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI got the idea to start up a bet and collect a pool from other people attending the wedding,\u201d he wrote in the post.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe basic idea is that participants guess a year in which the couple will divorce and put in a certain amount of money (minimum bet $50), and IF they end up divorcing during that year whoever guessed that year wins the whole pot.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

And if the couple\u2019s marriage lasts past the latest year predicted by a punter, they would receive all of the money in the betting pool.<\/span><\/p>\n

Having collected the money off all the participants, he then decided to announce the \u2018well-meaning\u2019 idea during his Best Man speech at the reception.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I was explaining the bet during my best man speech that was how I was going to end, kind of with a charming\/corny line, \u2018But we all know none of us are going to be winning the bet, because you two will be together forever, so you can look forward to cashing in!\u2019” the post explained.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBefore I could even get to that part the bride started crying and the parents and bridesmaids and all that were almost yelling at me, and the groom (my best friend of decades) was furious.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

It turns out this Best Man had the worst idea. The speech ended in tears and yelling, and the man\u2019s friend and his wife refusing to forgive or speak to him for ruining their special day.<\/span><\/p>\n

Commenters on the post largely agreed that the man had gone too far, with one poster saying, \u201cIt doesn\u2019t tell the couple you want them to have a happy ending. You\u2019re basically shoving it in their faces that there are dozens of people who believe they won\u2019t last. That\u2019s not how celebrating a wedding works.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Another simply wrote \u201cSuper poor taste my dude.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
