INSIDE the luxurious villa Richard Keys rents in the Qatari capital Doha, there is a Union Jack flag, a red \u00adtelephone box \u2013 and a large model of the Titanic.<\/p>\n

A gift from the former Sky Sports host\u2019s long-suffering wife Julia<\/a>, the replica of the doomed ship is now a \u00admetaphor for their marriage.<\/p>\n

In this case the \u201ciceberg\u201d was his affair with a lawyer less than half his age. And while their 34-year union remained afloat for a few months, it has now sunk for good.<\/p>\n

Julia, 57, confirmed this week that she is divorcing Keys, 59, after discovering that he was cheating on her with Lucie Rose, 28 \u2014 \u00adformerly a good friend of their daughter.<\/a><\/p>\n

And she believes her thyroid cancer, which she thought she had beaten in 2009, has returned due to his betrayal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Julia said: \u201cI think stress played an enormous part. Richard knows this.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s said he\u2019s extremely sorry his actions may have contributed to my recent diagnosis.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a painful twist, the trained relationship counsellor first uncovered her husband\u2019s devious behaviour while researching a book on adultery.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cThere were the \u00adclassic symptoms. He was over-protective with his phone, there were secret calls, late-night texts.<\/p>\n

\u201cWomen have a gut feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n

But when the mum of two quizzed her husband, he just accused her of being paranoid.<\/p>\n

So last May on a trip to \u00adCornwall Julie turned detective and took her husband\u2019s phone while he slept.<\/p>\n

She soon found herself swapping texts with his lover<\/a>.<\/p>\n

One message from Lucie read: \u201cAre you OK?\u201d When Julia wrote \u201cNo, I\u2019m not\u201d, Lucie replied \u2014 thinking it was Keys \u2014 \u201cI wish I was there to give you a cuddle.\u201d<\/p>\n

Julia confronted Keys who admitted that he had grown \u201cextremely close\u201d to Lucie.<\/p>\n

Julia said: \u201cI was not only angry but hugely upset and hurt that he would do this knowing our family circumstances and how much I\u2019d torn myself in two to be everything to him.\u201d<\/p>\n

The sacrifices she has made for her husband are not insignificant.<\/p>\n

Julia stood by him in 2011 during his very public fall from grace.<\/p>\n

Leaked Sky Sports<\/a> audio footage revealed Keys and co-host Andy Gray making crude sexist remarks about an assistant female referee. Ever-loyal Julia dished out cups of tea to reporters waiting \u00adoutside the couple\u2019s then-home in Chobham, Surrey, and trotted out excuses for the pair who were soon sacked.<\/p>\n

She said at the time: \u201cWith men, there are little bits of you that never grow up. It\u2019s banter from the boys.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then in 2013, Julia did not hesitate when he asked her to move with him to Qatar in 2013.<\/p>\n

Keys <\/a>had been offered a plum role on BeIN Sports, formerly Al Jazeera Sports, with a reported \u00a3420,000 tax-free salary and use of a ritzy villa.<\/p>\n

Julia had just begun a new career as a relationship therapist, but staying behind was not even a question.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cHe was my husband and I felt I should be wherever he was.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t want to go. There was very little for me to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Keys was soon making the most of the glamorous expat party scene.<\/p>\n

It was at one of the expats\u2019 weekly \u201cliquid brunches\u201d in a bar in Doha\u2019s Grand Hyatt that he and Lucie first flirted.<\/p>\n

The London-based \u00adprivate equity lawyer was known to Julia because she was a friend of daughter Jemma, 31, a former Hollyoaks <\/a>actress.<\/p>\n

It was only when Julia started working on her infidelity book in March last year that she began to have doubts.<\/p>\n

Next month she threw Keys a birthday party and was puzzled when Lucie turned up. She recalled: \u201cI left early. Lucie came over, grabbed me by the arm and said, \u2018Oh, are you going now, Julia?\u2019. It was the tone she used. That was the moment I knew.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then came the phone evidence in Cornwall, but Julia still hoped to save her marriage \u2014 until news of the fling leaked last October.<\/p>\n

Julia left Keys and headed home to stay with TV producer son Joshua, 27, in Ascot, Berks, and announced her intention to divorce.<\/p>\n

She declared: \u201cIt\u2019s disgusting what Richard and Lucie have done. Enough is enough. I have to look after myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yet, just 24 hours later, her threats were withdrawn.<\/p>\n

Amid speculation Keys could be sentenced to flogging or 15 years\u2019 jail for committing adultery in the strict Muslim country, Julia did a sudden about-turn.<\/p>\n

She claimed she was satisfied there had been no affair. Julia now admits: \u201cI did it for the sake of our family even though I knew he had been carrying on with her.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe apologised and brought me roses and a teddy. He promised he would not see Lucie again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then last month pictures emerged of a loved-up Keys and Lucie \u00adleaving a posh hotel in London by a side door.<\/a><\/p>\n

They also shared a romantic \u00addinner before Lucie was spotted leaving the hotel the next morning.<\/p>\n

A day later, rubbing salt into the wound, Lucie posted online sexy pictures of her bikini-clad figure. It was the final straw for Julia, who branded Keys a \u201cpathological liar\u201d and renewed her vow to divorce him. She confirmed this week that the divorce is under way.<\/p>\n

Last year, Julia came out of remission for thyroid cancer and tests have revealed further cancer markers in her blood, which means the disease is active again.<\/p>\n

Daughter Jemma is distraught.<\/p>\n

Julia said: \u201cJemma couldn\u2019t believe that a woman who was a friend could do this to her family.\u201d<\/p>\n

And Julia suspects that it is not Richard\u2019s first affair. She claimed: \u201cI\u2019ve very strong reasons to suspect his affair with Lucie is not the first.<\/p>\n

\u201cLucie is the first affair I\u2019ve \u00adcategorically caught him out on but I\u2019ve had reason to believe other things have gone on.\u201d<\/p>\n

So what does the future hold for Keys and Lucie? Julia does not see the relationship lasting.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t think their relationship has much chance. But that is no longer my business.<\/p>\n

\u201cRichard has told me, \u2018I don\u2019t know what happened to me\u2019. He admits he was flattered by the attention of a young woman.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has also said, \u2018There\u2019s no fool like an old fool\u2019.\u200a\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
