We are both miserable.<\/p>\n<p>Of course I\u2019m nervous about branching out on my own after so many years in a marriage. However, I\u2019m surprised and a bit hurt that I haven\u2019t received more encouragement and support from friends and family.<\/p>\n<p>People keep asking me if \u201cI\u2019m sure\u201d I want to leave him and constantly ask how I\u2019m going to manage this and that which isn\u2019t doing much for my \u00adconfidence. A couple of friends have even commented that I\u2019m quite old to be considering divorce.<\/p>\n<p>My husband and I have discussed selling our house and splitting our assets and that side of things is going OK, although I wouldn\u2019t say the \u00adsituation is exactly pleasant.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m just desperate now to get it all done so I can finally move on.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d love to hear your opinion about the matter.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"read-more-links\">\n<h5 class=\"publication-theme-icon publication-theme-border\">Read More<\/h5>\n<\/aside>\n<h3>Coleen says<\/h3>\n<p>OK, firstly, of course you\u2019re not too old to end your marriage. I think that comment says more about your friends and their own insecurities than it does about you. Hats off to you for taking control and making that brave decision to create a new life.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m 54 and recently got divorced for a second time, and living without the constant pressure to make something work that\u2019s never going to is a huge relief. And I\u2019m glad to say that my ex Ray and I are both happier than we\u2019ve been in years and we\u2019re friends.<\/p>\n<p>I think it\u2019s good if you can continue to keep the divorce amicable, and just keep reminding yourself that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Each day is another day closer to achieving what you want.<\/p>\n<p>I won\u2019t lie, of course it\u2019s tough to be in the same house as the person you\u2019re divorcing, but just give each other space and do your own thing as much as possible.<\/p>\n<p>As for the attitude of friends and family, I\u2019m sure some are just worried for you. Others might be a bit envious because you\u2019re strong enough to make this decision. This kind of thing often makes people examine their own lives. Reassure them you\u2019re happy and that you welcome their support.
