Failure to stamp out rogue lawyers ‘starting to look ridiculous’, says LSB chief
The outgoing head of the profession’s umbrella regulator has declared that failure to root out systemic misconduct is starting to undermine public confidence in lawyers. Matthew Hill, who stands down as the chief executive of the Legal Services Board next month, said the sector has to be ‘more honest with ourselves’ about the extent of poor behaviour. It was no longer helpful to simply regard examples of this as a ‘few bad apples’. Citing the role of lawyers in the Post Office scandal, the drafting of inappropriate NDAs and issuing of SLAPPS, Hill said there had to be an acceptance […]
The Power of Venting to Someone During Divorce
“I hate him so much!” “This is so unfair.” “I’m going to go broke by the time this divorce is over!” “Why is God doing this to me?” “I hate my life.” “Who’s going to want me now that I’m 45 and single again?” “He already has a girlfriend!” “My kids are going to grow up so messed up.” “I’m scared.” “Last week, he threw the child support check at me.” “He’s such a jerk.” “I can’t even be in the same room with him!” “He makes me sick!” Sound familiar? These are all examples of what venting to someone […]

National Audit Office criticises government’s management of legal aid
The Ministry of Justice does not know whether everyone eligible for legal aid can access it and the government needs to do more to ensure the sector is sustainable, a damning report from the public spending watchdog states today. And while the MoJ has succeeded in its objective of significantly reducing spending, it cannot demonstrate how much its reforms have saved the public purse, the National Audit Office said. According to the report, on the government’s management of legal aid, the ministry does not collect sufficient data to understand whether those entitled to help can access it. On market sustainability, […]
Finding Happiness After Divorce isn’t a Possibility, it’s a PROBABILITY
Ask any newly separated man or woman if he or she thinks finding happiness after divorce is possible, and the answer you get will involve a grim outlook. “Who knows?” they will might say with their head down, their eyes possibly filling with tears. “I haven’t thought that far ahead. I’m just thinking about how to survive RIGHT NOW.” My opinion is, finding happiness after divorce is not a possibility, but rather a PROBABILITY, and I can say that because of the dozens of divorced women and men I have seen go from sad, weary, scared, frustrated, angry and depressed to […]

How To Balance Work And The Litigation Process With A Difficult Ex
As a divorce and family law attorney based in New York, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges and emotional toll that professionals can face during a divorce or custody battle. In my career, I have taken on challenging cases and understand the unique challenges individuals and families encounter during divorce or separation proceedings. In a world where we strive to separate our personal and professional lives, legal processes can be especially challenging to navigate while in a leadership position. How to ensure a divorce settlement is fair and just
In the realm of family law, determining a financial and property split within divorce proceedings can present its challenges. Whilst it is a fundamental requirement for the purposes of achieving fairness, for the Judge to preserve wide powers of discretion, the family courts in the United Kingdom rely on a framework set out in Section 25 of the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973. This statute sets out the criteria that the courts must consider when deciding the appropriate financial and property settlement. Section 25 of the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973 Section 25 of the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973 establishes a comprehensive […]

The litigation comes amid increasing efforts from Congress and the Biden administration to develop a legal framework around the quickly expanding role of artificial intelligence in health care. “AI is finding its way into every aspect of our lives.
