How to Turn a Procedural Hurdle Into a Strategic Advantage in Civil Litigation
Procedural hurdles in civil litigation often seem like costly delays. But reframing them reveals strategic potential. Savvy litigators don’t just overcome these barriers; they use them. They gain leverage, shape timelines, and expose weaknesses in the opposing case. Mastering the procedure turns litigation into a tactical area. Here, the rules of engagement can be as decisive as the facts themselves. 1. Leveraging Discovery Disputes to Reveal Case Theory Discovery often leads to disputes, as parties argue over the extent and significance of the information being requested. While an opponent’s unwillingness to provide documents may appear as an obstacle, it actually […]
How divorce redefined marriage
Divorce, once shrouded by shame and the tarnishing of one’s social reputation, has undergone a drastic makeover in the past four decades. Marriage, in turn, is no longer emblematic of a shiny, celebratory rite of passage. It is now viewed as an unnecessary luxury at best, and an entirely preventable, soul-sucking disaster at worst. The latest statistics on divorce in America are revealed in a Pew Research Center report. Divorce rates have been steadily declining after peaking in 1980. That year, there were 22.6 divorces per 1,000 married women; by 2023, this number had shrunk to 14.4 divorces. One-third of Americans […]
Sex offenders to be denied parental responsibility for children born of rape | Family law
Sex offenders will no longer be entitled to parental responsibility for children conceived through rape, under new measures proposed in parliament. In a government-backed amendment to the Victims and Courts Bill, due to come before parliament on Monday 27 October, parental responsibility will automatically be restricted where a child is born of rape. New reforms will also see parental responsibility restricted when a parent is convicted of serious sex offences against any child, not just their own. It will mean sex offenders will no longer be able to intervene in decisions about medical care, schooling and overseas travel. Bolsover MP […]

Thousands in UK open case against Johnson & Johnson over alleged talcum powder cancer link | Johnson…
Thousands of people are taking legal action against pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson, claiming it knowingly sold asbestos-contaminated talcum powder in the UK. As many as 3,000 people have alleged that either they or a family member developed forms of ovarian cancer or mesothelioma from using Johnson’s Baby Powder, and are seeking damages at the high court in London. Lawyers for the group said in court documents filed on Thursday that Johnson & Johnson, along with current and former subsidiaries Johnson & Johnson Management and Kenvue UK, should all be held liable. They said J&J “concealed” the risk to the […]
3 Practices To Transform Divorce Loneliness
Divorce loneliness is normal and understandable. It can sneak up on you when you least expect it. At first, the loss feels sharp and consuming. Later, once the legal process is over, it can reappear in surprising ways — when your social circle shifts, when the phone is too quiet, or when “couple friends” no longer fit the same way. The good news is, it doesn’t have to be this way. There are ways to not only cope, but to find happiness and peace. Kelly Clarkson’s anthem Stronger belts out: What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger Stand a little taller Doesn’t […]
The Troubling Reasons Why Divorce Rates Go up When Women Earn More
Kim Dhatt, a 34-year-old recruitment specialist, was in a relationship with her ex-partner for four years. When they first got together, he earned slightly more than she did, and the difference didn’t bother either of them. After a series of promotions over 18 months, her salary tripled — and then he couldn’t deal, Dhatt says. Her partner’s self-worth was tied directly to his income, and it eroded as her salary grew, Dhatt tells me. He insisted on splitting costs 50-50, leaving her with a disposable income that she wanted to spend on nice things but felt like she couldn’t. When […]
Most Women Consider Divorce In This Part Of Life
We often hear about the “seven-year itch” that sets in for many marriages, the point at which, after seven years, happiness and spark begin to decline as the novelty of wedded bliss settles into routine. But that’s typically a male-centered thing. It’s spoken about more as the point when men’s eyes begin to wander. What about women? Do they have a point when they start feeling like they might have had it with this whole marriage thing? It turns out they do, according to a new study. Nearly 60% of women consider divorce once menopause begins. The study was conducted […]
