It was in July 2022, Christine and Paddy announced that they were calling it quits on their 15-year relationship
Christine McGuinness has made an honest admission about her divorce from Paddy as she revealed there was an ‘unforgivable’ cause for the split.
Christine and Bolton-born star Paddy met in 2007 when she was modelling at the Liverpool Tennis Tournament. Paddy later popped the question over Christmas in 2009 and they tied the knot in 2011 at the Thornton Manor Estate, where Paddy’s close pal and comedian Peter Kay was among the 200 guests
But it was in July 2022, Christine and Paddy announced that they were calling it quits on their 15-year relationship. In a joint statement, they said: “We hadn’t planned on sharing this publicly until we were ready but after the lack of privacy surrounding our personal life, we feel left with no other option but to clarify.
“A while ago we took the difficult decision to separate but our main focus as always is to continue loving and supporting our children. This was not an easy decision to make but we’re moving forward as the best parents we can be for our three beautiful children. We’ll always be a loving family, we still have a great relationship and still live happily in our family home together.
“We hope this now draws a line under anymore unwanted and unnecessary intrusion into our private life. Although we work in the public eye we ask kindly if you could respect our wishes for privacy on this matter. We’ll be making no further comment. Loads of love. Paddy & Christine.”
Speaking on the latest episode of The Shizzio Show, Christine revealed it was something “unforgivable” that made her and the BBC Radio 2 star separate, however, she doesn’t know if she will ever talk about what happened between them.
“It was a difficult time. It wasn’t something that, you know, I just decided to do overnight, or that we chose to do,” Christine, who shares three children – twins Leo and Penelope and youngest daughter Felicity – with Paddy, said. “We tried, and, yeah, there just, unfortunately, there was no repairing it, you know?”
She went on: “I’ll always, always love him as the father of the children, and I still live at home with him, which says a lot. We separated three years ago, and we are completely divorced, and we live in separate parts of the house, but we share a family home.”
But Christine also admitted that the divorce has been quite costly, saying she’s been left with a £300,00 bill. “There was times where it was fine and really civil, and we were agreeing on what we wanted and what we were going…
“Then there was times where it felt like we were starting all the way back at the beginning,” she said. “It’s the biggest bill I have ever paid in my life, and I will say that I paid for my own divorce, nobody else,” she added.
Christine, 37, also admitted: “I think both of us now, if we could sit down and do it again, yeah, we’d do it completely differently, because we both spent a hell of a lot of money on divorce lawyers.”
