Emmerdale has been revealed as the divorce capital of the soap world.

The long-running show has seen more than 68% couples break up their marriages in 46 years.

A divorce happens on average every 189 episodes in the British soap set in Yorkshire.

Around 61% of marriages end in divorce and a further 7% end in annulment, dissolvement, or invalidity.

This is followed closely by Eastenders, which saw a total of 60% of couples end up in the divorce courts, and another 7% end in five other forms of split.

Hollyoaks ranks third, followed by Coronation Street, and Home & Away ranks fifth, figures from bingo site Tombola reveal.

Around 13% of troubled marriages end in other forms of split on Coronation Street, with the most common reason being one of the couple being already married.

On the other hand, Australian show Neighbours has the lowest rate of divorce at just 35% where the average marriage lasts seven years.

Coronation Street ranks second with the average union lasting five years, similar to Home & Away.

Emmerdale and Eastenders both see couples only lasting together for the average of two years.

Hollyoaks has the lowest length of marriages on average at just one year, although many last mere weeks or months.

The most successful unions in soap history have also been revealed with Gordon Davies and Joan Walker rising to number one.

The Coronation Street love birds have been married for nearly 60 years making them the longest married couple in soaps.

Others taking up the top spots include loved up couples from the popular British show.

Ron Cooke and Maggie Clegg take the second stop with 45 years of marriage, and Gordon Clegg and Caroline Wilson taking the third spot at 37 years closely followed by Eddie Years and Marlon Willis at 36 years.

Neighbours’ Dan Ramsey and Edna Ramsay rank number five at 33 years.
