Extra bodyguards are reportedly being drafted to in keep Mel safe at work
SIMON Cowell has reportedly stepped up security on America’s Got Talent to protect judge Mel B amid her bitter divorce battle with Stephen Belafonte.
Mel has been granted a restraining order to keep her estranged husband away, but staff on the reality show are said to be taking no chances.
The Spice Girl, 41, started work on the new series of Simon’s hit US talent show earlier this year, shortly before she filed for divorce from her husband of 10 years.
In court papers filed as part of her restraining order application, she accused him of beating her during their marriage, and producers on AGT are now said to be keen to make Mel is protected during filming.
Simon has given the green light for extra bodyguards to be hired to make sure Mel feels safe while working on the TV show’s set in the US, according to the Daily Star.
A insider told the publication: “Mel is petrified about her safety and fears Belafonte may attempt to crash the filming to see her…

Mel has been putting her divorce drama aside to get back to work filming in California.
She was spotted on a location shoot in Inglewood this week just days after her split from Stephen turned nasty.
She kicked off work on the latest series of Simon’s show AGT earlier this year, and it comes as Stephen accused Mel of launching a “smear campaign” against him in a bid to protect her reality TV career.
A statement released by Belafonte’s rep dismissed Mel’s claims: “In due course, Mr. Belafonte will be filing his response to the outrageous and unfounded allegations made by Ms. Brown, which allegations he vehemently denies…
“When the Court determines the truth, it will become clear that this entire charade was nothing more than a smear campaign intended to cover up Ms. Brown’s own conduct during the marriage in light of her current involvement with a family television show, and in an effort to unfairly gain leverage both financially and with respect to custody of the children.”
The court papers contained explosive allegations about domestic abuse, threesomes and claims Stephen got their nanny pregnant and paid for her to have an abortion.
Simon has backed the singer, telling The Sun that he has a lot of respect for her.
He said: “If you think about what Mel’s done since leaving the Spice Girls and what she’s gone through, how hard she works and how I saw her try to handle this situation, it was astonishing.
“Yes, she’s under pressure but I think she’s in a good place.”
