Krinick: Business mediation can avoid the grind of litigation

My friends who own boats often share with me the famous adage that the best two days of boat ownership are the day that the boat is purchased and the day the boat is sold. The joys of boat ownership are quickly subsumed by the day-to-day grind of maintenance and other aggravations that come with owning a water craft. The same can be said for business litigation, at least for the party that starts the lawsuit. The client is always outraged by the wrongful conduct of the soon-to-be defendant and is itching to sue. All the evidence is gathered, research [...]

Adele has broken her silence on her divorce from Simon Konecki in the most Adele way possible, posting a relatable meme on Instagram. The couple, who share a six year old son, got married in 2016, but had been together for seven years. While Adele has always been incredibly secretive about her private life (fans have never seen a picture of her son Angelo, for example), the singer just broke her silence on her recent divorce from Simon Konecki. Announcing the split in a statement last week, Adele's rep confirmed: "Adele and her partner have separated. They are committed to [...]

Divorce is not an easy concept for anyone to deal with, especially while in the midst of college. Everyone hopes for an ideal, happy family environment to come back to as well as having a sense of “home.” Nevertheless, for many students this hope just doesn’t mirror their reality. As if adjusting to my first year in college wasn’t daunting enough, I came to UCSB fresh out of my parents’ divorce. I still find that admitting I have divorced parents isn’t something that naturally comes out of my mouth when people ask me about my home life. To this day, [...]

A lot can happen in seven years — except, apparently, if you're Bethenny Frankel, and you want to move on from your ex. On the latest episode of The Real Housewives of New York City, the Skinnygirl mogul was feeling the stress of the constant battle, which currently has to do with custody issues (clip above). Major stress like that can take a toll mentally and even physically. Dr. Elizabeth Lasky, Ph.D., LCSW, tells Personal Space she feels for the mom of one. "The stress from a divorce can be earth-shattering. Going through the legal battles and emotional sparring that a divorce [...]

Dear Coleen I’m a 63-year-old woman and I’ve made the decision to divorce my husband after 35 years of marriage. Our relationship has struggled for 15 years, but I feel I’ve finally found the courage to leave and be on my own. He had affairs earlier in our marriage, which we tried to move on from, but these days we just argue constantly and hate being around each other. We are both miserable. Of course I’m nervous about branching out on my own after so many years in a marriage. However, I’m surprised and a bit hurt that I haven’t [...]
